Day One

Evan and I have made it to our first destination! After a stressful pre-departure evening, the little red sled was successfully loaded onto the truck and tucked safely away for the ride. Incase you are wondering how to put a pickup truck into a moving truck, it requires a brother who builds boats and has access to a loading dock. How we will unload the truck on the east coast remains a mystery.

Packing was quite the task this morning as the little red sled had to be completely secured in the moving van. After saying good bye to the parents, we were on the road! We made it all the way to Costco in Issaquah for some last minute supplies before seriously taking to the road. Driving the arc was and is going to be quite the experience. I'm hoping to add this new found beneficial skill to my resume incase I find my calling in the large vehicle moving field. The first lesson we have learned so far is to get gas when down to a 1/4 tank. After a miscalculation, we almost coasted into the gas station after thinking the next one was just around the corner.

We arrived at our parents' long time friends', Tom and Barb Richardson's posh lake front house in Spokane around 8:30pm. We promptly made ourselves at home and chatted with them for awhile. It's now bed time and we are hitting the road for Rapid City tomorrow morning around 10am. Passing through Spokane and Coeur d'Alene marks the last stretch of familiar highway before the unknown states and the point of no return are upon us!

  1. Rapid City today? WOW! That's almost 900 miles. It's tempting to give all sorts of advice and such but I'll try to refrain. Hope the load is staying reasonably stable. It can be amazing how much it shifts and needs to be monitored. Remember the "good judgment" saying. OK, no more parental admonitions. What's your mascot's name again?

BTW, E forgot to take the desk from downstairs.

  2. Wow I miss you guys so much already! Evan the house is so quiet and empty without you and Seattle feels emptier too without Alison. Thanks for doing the blog. I had a good chuckle reading it. I trust you're having a great time so far.

Yep, I was wondering about that desk later in the afternoon after the desk chair event. I was thinking back that I didn't see that desk in the truck, but by then you were probably half way to Spokane. Oh well, you'll have to pick out a new one. They have IKEA in Charlotte.

BTW - Granddaddy and GrandJo are saving their glass top table and chairs for your dining room and maybe Uncle Ernest can hook you up with an affordable desk. The great thing about NC is all the furniture outlets.

  3. Sounds like you're off to a great start! Wish you would have stopped in Hayden Lake, too!
